Zabu Wamara is a Ugandan writer whose work spans fiction and creative nonfiction. Her debut novel manuscript, Night Dancer, was a joint winner of the 2025 Island Prize, and she was shortlisted for the Miles Morland Foundation African Writers’ Scholarship the same year. In 2026, she was longlisted for A Public Space’s Writing Fellowship. Her short story “Pineapple” was longlisted for the 2025 Afritondo Short Story Prize and appears in the 2026 anthology This is How to Stay Alive. Her creative nonfiction has been published in The Weganda Review. Zabu holds an MA in Creative Writing Prose Fiction from the University of East Anglia, where she was a Global Voices Scholar. Her previous residencies include the PFUMO Collective, Miles Morland Foundation (2024 and 2025), FEMRITE, and the International Chair of Creative Writing project.
